Na-bi — AZIN LIM

Na-bi is a recurring character in my work, whose name means “butterfly” in Korean. Recognizable by yellow wings, red boots, and blue hair, Na-bi was expelled from paradise after tasting the forbidden fruit and crash-landed in the streets of Seoul. Since then, Na-bi has wandered the city in search of a place to belong. Through Na-bi’s journey, I explore themes of queerness, desire, exclusion, transformation, and the possibility of belonging beyond normative structures. Scenes from Na-bi’s story take shape through painting, sculpture, installation, and performance, and at times Na-bi steps into the real world to meet people face to face.

‘나비’는 나의 작업에 반복적으로 등장하는 캐릭터다. 노란 날개와 빨간 부츠, 파란 머리를 한 나비는 금단의 열매를 맛본 뒤 낙원에서 쫓겨나 서울의 거리로 불시착했고, 이후 자신이 속할 수 있는 장소를 찾아 도시를 배회한다. 나는 나비의 여정을 통해 퀴어성, 욕망, 배제, 변화, 그리고 규범 너머의 소속 가능성을 탐구한다. 나비의 이야기 속 장면들은 회화, 조형, 설치, 퍼포먼스 등 다양한 매체를 통해 구현되며, 때로는 나비가 현실의 거리로 걸어 나와 사람들을 직접 만나기도 한다.
