About the Event
Foreign Bodies brings together two artists whose practices explore what it means to inhabit bodies, identities, and communities across cultural and social borders.
Azin Lim (based in Seoul) and Katarzyna Mazur (based in Berlin) have each built independent practices rooted in the body, gaze, and belonging — Azin through painting, sculpture, installation, and performance exploring queer experience in Korea; Katarzyna through photography, collage, and video exploring the body, identity, and the politics of looking from a queer feminist perspective. The two met in Seoul, and found that their work speaks to shared questions of diaspora, visibility, and the body — queerness and diaspora both being about building community and identity outside of what's given, whether by family, nation, or norm.
This event brings together diasporic and foreigner artist perspectives through an informal artist talk and conversation. Azin will speak about Korean queer art and community from the perspective of someone living and working within it, while Katarzyna reflects on her experience as an artist-in-residence in Seoul.
The conversation will be grounded in their books and projects — Azin's Get L-Ready with me: how to Femme & Butch, and Katarzyna's ANNA KONDA and A(N)NAMORPHOSIS — as anchors for a wider discussion on gaze, visibility, and belonging.
Rather than a formal lecture, expect an informal conversation, with plenty of space for audience participation. Come along if you're curious about queer art and culture, diaspora, artistic practice, or simply want to meet the two artists.
About the Artists
Azin Lim
Azin Lim is a Seoul-based artist working across painting, sculpture, installation, and performance, centered on queer experience, the body, and belonging. Much of her work follows Na-bi, a recurring character who was cast out of paradise and now wanders the streets of Seoul in search of belonging — a lens through which Azin explores exclusion, desire, and transformation. Her book Get L-Ready with me: how to Femme & Butch (2025) traces her own process of becoming both femme and butch, told through drawings, essays, and photography by Evi Neva. She is also the creator of the ongoing Faces project, a growing archive of portraits drawn at queer events and venues, and regularly organizes book talks, life drawing sessions, and other gatherings that build community around her work.
Katarzyna Mazur
Katarzyna Mazur is a Polish visual artist based in Berlin, working across photography, collage, and video to explore the body, identity, and the politics of looking from a queer feminist perspective. Her book ANNA KONDA (2015) documents the Female Fight Club Berlin, and was nominated for the Aperture PhotoBook Award at Paris Photo. In the years since, the work has often been misread — reduced to questions about the fighters' femininity, or framed as pornographic — a response that shaped her next project, A(N)NAMORPHOSIS (2017–2025), a female perspective turned back on the male gaze, completed and now awaiting publication as a book. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at ARKO Art Center and Total Museum in Seoul, C/O Berlin, and the Museum of Modern Art Cottbus.
