Faces from Seoul Queer Parade 2026

Location: Around Namdaemun-ro & Ujeongguk-ro (Euljiro 1-ga – Jonggak Station)
I brought Faces to the 2026 Seoul Queer Parade. I'd always worked from a table at indoor booths — this was the first time moving through a crowd and approaching strangers directly. I'd planned 5–10 minutes per portrait, but it ended up being around 3, moving fast to stay out of people's way. These were made much faster than previous portraits, resulting in a more immediate and sketch-like feel. Sunglasses, rainbow face paint, flushed cheeks in the heat — it felt like summer. At some point my crayons and oil pastels even started melting in the sun. Over the course of three hours, I drew 53 faces, bringing the total number of faces in the project to 193 as of June 2026. Faces will continue. This July, I'll be at Pride events in Berlin and Amsterdam, meeting and drawing new faces. My deepest thanks to everyone who participated.
2026 서울 퀴어 퍼레이드의 얼굴들

장소: 남대문로 및 우정국로 일대 (을지로입구역–종각역)
2026 서울 퀴어 퍼레이드에서 〈얼굴들〉을 진행했다. 그전까지는 실내 부스에서 테이블에 앉아 그렸는데, 거리를 돌아다니며 그리는 건 이번이 처음이었다. 초상화 당 5~10분을 계획했지만 실제로는 개당 약 3분 정도로 진행했다. 통행에 방해되지 않도록 최대한 빠르게 그려서 이전 얼굴들에 비해 더 순간적이고 크로키 같은 느낌이 난다. 선글라스를 쓴 사람들, 무지개 페이스페인팅, 햇살을 받아 상기된 볼들. 여름 냄새가 가득한 시간이었다. 햇빛에 크레파스와 오일 파스텔이 점차 녹아 끈적끈적해지기도 했다. 이날 세 시간 동안 53명을 그려서 2026년 6월 기준 193개의 얼굴들이 모였다. 〈얼굴들〉 프로젝트는 계속해서 확장해나가고자 한다. 올해 7월, 베를린과 암스테르담 프라이드에서 프로젝트를 이어나갈 예정이다. 참여해주신 모든 분들께 깊은 감사를 전한다.
